Mobile Self-Storage Association Selects REM Services
May 14, 2008:
Arlington, VA, April 15, 2008—The Board of Directors of the Mobile Self-Storage Association (MSSA) has selected REM Association Services to provide management services for the organization. Robert E. McLean, CAE and REM’s president, will serve as the association’s executive director.
REM is a full-service association management company (AMC) located in Arlington, VA, that provides leadership, administrative services, and professional management to national and international associations and societies.
MSSA is a young, national trade association whose more than 150 members are located in the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The association serves independently owned and operated mobile storage businesses with educational and other program, including an annual conference and exposition. MSSA hosts a two-day annual conference and exposition, with the next event, the association’s third, scheduled for October 2008..
McLean received the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) in 2002. CAE is an indication of demonstrated skill in association management. He is vice chair of ASAE’s AMC Section Council, which chooses its members based on their experience and leadership as AMC executives. He has also been part of the leadership of the AMC Institute, the trade association for management companies like REM.
AMCs are for-profit businesses that collectively manage budgets in the United States exceeding $2 billion annually. Based on the concept of shared resources and split costs, an AMC provides volunteer organizations with the expertise they need, when they need it, without major capital investment. AMCs often serve as the client association’s headquarters and assign administrative and executive professionals to conduct day-to-day operations on behalf of the client.
